HYBRID SHOOTING - PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM MAKING

FEATURED FILM OF THE MONTH - MARCH 2024

TEASER FILM FROM GEMMA & ALEX’S DAY AT TOWNHEAD ESTATE. CHOSEN FOR ALEX’S GRANDAD’S BEAUTIFUL WORDS.

MY ETHOS ABOUT FILM MAKING….. I WANT TO MAKE LOVELY FILMS OF LOVELY DAYS WITHOUT YOU KNOWING I’M MAKING THEM.

I’m not a videographer. I’m a photographer who makes highlight films. Every single wedding, every single couple and every single highlight film will be completely different. Some upbeat, some dramatic, some heartfelt, some fun, some a mixture of all of those things. It completely depends on you as a couple and the kind of day you had, and how I saw it unfold infront of me.

It’s my version of your day seen through my lens. I then go away and build a reflective story for you.

My films are highlight films, I do not record nor include full speeches and ceremony in highlight films. I film because I enjoy making artistic creative versions of your day, not simply a record of everything that happened on your day like a BBC news correspondent. I am happy to let you chose the music from a licensed music provider but I cannot and will not use any music that is copyrighted. I am happy to send over a list of wonderful videographers who will record your day in full if this is what you choose.

THE HARSH TRUTH

Rather than just say I don’t include speeches and ceremony in highlight films I’m going to explain why.

I LOVE FILM. I love the cinematic moments, and the movement. I love the transitions and the storytelling without explanation and without words. Sometimes words aren’t needed. It absolutely kills me to go back over a beautiful film and add speeches in, especially when they are about the best man puking in Ayia Napa over some beautiful drone footage.

I also don’t like voices. Unless a celebrant is conducting the wedding (these are usually trained people who are used to delivering beautiful services and speaking reet proper nice) Most people hate the sound of their voice so why ruin a lovely film with a broad lancashire accent eh?

WHAT DOES HYBRID MEAN?

I am not a videographer, I shoot hybrid which means that the cameras are constantly being switched between photo and video. The longest film snippet will be around 10 seconds before I switch back to photos. If you want continuous footage that goes on for hours then you need to book a professional videographer. My films are designed to be for couples who never would have considered a film but a highlight film is right up their street. They are for couples who don’t want two photographers and two videographers following them around like shadows. I shoot solo, I’m discreet and if you communicate clearly with me before the day I will try my best to capture the things most important to you and not focus on the stuff that’s not. Also, it’s 2024, who has the time or brain capacity to sit through 45 minutes of wedding film? nobody I know, thanks to Tik Tok our attention span is roughly 30 seconds. Trust me, you’ll struggle to sit through 10 minutes.

I can set up a tripod to record your speeches in full, pointing at the speaker. These files will be provided in black and white on your usb stick. Speeches will not be included in your highlight film. Please note that it is not always possible to offer this due to timings, space and logistics. If speeches are important to you then please hire a professional videographer.

checklist to see if hybrid is for you

  1. I WILL MISS THINGS - I’LL HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION BETWEEN WHETHER I FILM OR PHOTOGRAPH SOME PARTS

  2. FILMS WILL NOT BE CINEMATIC MASTERPIECES

  3. AUDIO FROM SPEECHES OR CEREMONY WILL NOT BE IN REAL TIME NOR SYNCED TO FOOTAGE

  4. YOU’RE HAVING A TINY WEDDING OR ELOPEMENT AND WANT A FILM TO REMEMBER IT BY

  5. YOU ONLY WANT ONE PERSON WITH A CAMERA ON YOUR DAY (MAX 2)

  6. YOU WILL HAVE SLIGHTLY LESS PHOTOGRAPHS IN YOUR GALLERY WITH HYBRID

Photographs are beautiful but seeing moving footage is so important especially when babies grow into toddlers and toddlers into teenagers. The little quirks quickly get forgotten. Approx 50 still images and a 1-2 minute film.
